These longtail boats in Muong Ngoi Neua are critical to locals’ livelihoods. With no roads, the Nam Ou River is the only form of transport in and out of Muong Ngoi Neua. Locals rely largely on fishing for both food and sale.

Very artistic shot! Is that the land color or it’s the water? And did you try to ride on one of this boat? :)
Sadly, it’s the color of the water. As gross as it looks I was almost tempted to swim in it. Almost.
Really? wow… is it mudd or something?
I love the angle you took this shot! Awesome!!!
Great shot Laura. I remember that chocolate colored water in Laos!
That water does not look clean!
How can they do any fishing in that water??
Looks like nothing could possible survive in it!!
Natalie, I’m not sure either. Needless to say I wasn’t indulging in any seafood!
The Mekong is muddy ( it is not dirty, not smelly ) in the raining time and become clear again when the raining season is finished. ofcourse there are alots of fishes in the Mekong river.
Thank you for the clarification. I actually don’t eat seafood at all, but many people say that the fish is great!
