Built in the 6th century, the Basilica Cistern in Istanbul is located just across from Hagia Sophia. It was used as a reservoir for water storage. There are 366 columns. I can’t fathom why one might build such an elaborate space underground for water, but it’s beautiful and worth the 10 TL to enter.
Oh what a beautiful place!
Wow, that’s gorgeous! And not somewhere I remember hearing about before, so it’s nice to see something new.
This looks gorgeous and yet a bit haunting. I can just imagine walking around inside.
Yes the visit is definitely worth the fee. The Basilica Cistern is an amazing historical place. I like the picture and it is really beautiful. Thank for sharing.
Magical.
Have You used tripod?
I did not actually- I just held really still!
Hm… so sharp shots! It is very hard to do it with this lighting.
