One of the very first things I did when I got to Barcelona was take a cable car up to the castle of Montjuic (literally ‘Hill of the Jews’). I went not so much for the focus on the castle but for the gorgeous views of the city of Barcelona (my previous post features one of the many photos I took of the city). However, walking through parts of the castle were an added bonus.
Since I hadn’t done any planning before getting to Barcelona, I went on impulse. With little research, I took the cable car to get up to the top. I walked down because I at least knew what cardinal direction to head. It was fun to wind along small streets and cut through parks to make my own way back into the city. I would compare Montjuic to Piazzalle Michelangelo in Florence- it’s a great place to visit that is absolutely free to get a great view of the city.
Ooooh! We go to Barcelona in about a month! I will have to check this place out, it looks awesome.
Kyle- I’m jealous! There’s so much to see and do in Barcelona. All of my upcoming posts pertain to Barcelona so stay tuned.
What a great shot! How were the other parts of the castle and were the views as spectacular as you thought they would be?
Kirk,
I will be posting more photos tomorrow of the castle and the views. You can see everything from up here!
I didn’t venture up Montjuic when I was in Barcelona! I should have! Love Piazzale though so I know it must be a great place if you have made the comparison!
I really loved Piazzale Michelangelo- such an amazing spot. I think Florence is a little more picturesque than Barcelona but it’s still worth a visit to Montjuic!
If you say Montjuic is like Piazzalle Michelangelo, I would so have to visit this place. Because the view looking down must be so beautiful.
