As I stood at the water’s edge and looked back towards Cape Town I tried to imagine…. imagine what it was like being a prisoner on Robben Island, a person whose crime was most likely fighting for equal rights and defending freedom. Feeling trapped and wrongly imprisoned on an island, while tensions ran high back on the mainland. The views of Table Mountain, Cape Town’s grandiose backdrop is spectacular and one not to be missed when visiting Robben Island. I could enjoy the views as a temporary spectator. If I had to see this sight every day for years before I would be allowed back on the mainland- now that might be a different story.
It’s pretty crazy how what you’re looking at as a part of idyllic scenery was what someone else saw as a complete prison.
When I first saw it, I thought the view of Cape Town was gorgeous. But to see it daily while being forced to dig in a limestone quarry for 13 years (as Nelson Mandela and so many others did)- that would be tough!
I stood in that same place and had those same thoughts!
I think Cape Town might very well be my favorite city in the world. I was there this time last year and will be back this time next for a wedding!
Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Definitely towards the top of my list!
Agree with Kyle, it would be really conflicting to see something so beautiful which caused so much pain for others.
I stayed in Capetown for couple weeks, but didn’t see table mountain with out clouds on the top :)
Beautiful, beautiful Cape Town!
