One of the perks of my summer job was a safari in South Africa. And this wasn’t just any safari… we’re talking a five-star safari that I will probably never go on again unless I win the lottery. We spent two evenings on a private game reserve at Thornybush and went on four game drives. Our drivers and trackers assigned to us were amazing, and I can’t say enough good things about this place.
Here are just a few pictures from the safari. Although not all pictured, I saw elephants, giraffes, hippos, rhinos, cheetahs, buffalo, leopards, lots of antelope, and birds.
And the best surprise of the trip….

OMG…I love this. Great shots! Brings back memories. I was there years back (Kruger and a private reserve, too) and thought it was a peak experience in life–one that I’d love to have again. Looks like yours was truly amazing, too!
It was my first high-end safari and I loved it. Definitely a step above camping ;)
I am so insanely jealous (minus the poop spitting contest)!!! What a gorgeous place you stayed at and the animals you spotted…wow!
Andi, I’m pretty sure if you were there you would have been convinced to participate in the contest. Our guide persuaded all 6 of us to do it which is no easy feat!
This is my type of Safari and one that I will take at some point in the future! I loved your pictures of the animals.
Debbie, You definitely must go on a safari! Every one of them has been amazing!
I am currently a vibrant shade of green with envy! Going on an African Safari is on my bucket list and this one looks amazing!
Annette, The luxury of it was absolutely fantastic! However, I’ve done some really budget safaris as well and the animals are all the same :) The great thing about safaris is you can usually find one to suit every budget. Definitely something you need to do!
That looks incredibly fun. Your hotel room looks amazing too!
Hi Lori! Yes, the lodge was beauiful! I only wish it were summer there so I could have gone swimming in the pool!
It looks like you had so much fun.. The trip sure is expensive but it is worth it… I like your shot in the hotel, I didn’t expect that there is an amazing hotel there.. thank you for sharing..
Wow, the lodge is beyond gorgeous. And so are the animals. You saw so many cool safari animals, I’m jealous!
You had me with everything even the shoot gun but the poop spitting contest I just have to pass on.
OMG this looks amazing! Amazing. When I go on safari I want it to be like this. What an experience. Love all the pictures.
