The Plain of Jars is a series of archaeological sites in Laos. There are more than 90 sites with anywhere from 1 to 400 jars at each. No one really knows what they were used for. Scientists have theories and local legends are in abundance. The mysterious element drew me to the Plain of Jars initially. It proved to be much more educational and interesting than I initially thought, providing a valuable lesson on the UXO situation in Laos. Plain of Jars was one of my favorite sites in Laos.
I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about these jars lately. They look SO cool!!!
Nice! This is one of my main destinations for when I finally get to Laos! Just a few more weeks! I can’t wait! It looks pretty amazing!
Connie,
You will love Laos! It’s my favorite country in SE Asia so far. Plain of Jars was really interesting. What’s your itinerary look like? You should also go to Muong Ngoi Neua if you get the chance.
Hey Laura, That is very cool. It’s almost like Machu Puchi in Peru. It’s part of the ancient history that no one know why or how. Anymore shots of these?
Sarah,
I took lots of photos of the Plain of Jars as we went to three different sites. I will get them uploaded eventually (I’m just a little behind- okay a lot!) but when I get them up I’ll let you know :)
Okay, no problem looking forward to see them :P
